QCRI commemorated the end of a successful 2013 summer internship program with a closing ceremony and best research awards. The intensive eight-week program welcomed 22 students from universities in Qatar and the region. The winners of the best research are:
First place: Optical Character Recognition of Historical Arabic Text, by Fathima Mona Thowfeek (Qatar University) and Sayed ALi Hashim Moosavi (Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar). Mentor: Dr. Stephan Vogel
Second place: Socio-Graphic Map of Doha, by Hu Humaira Tasnim MD Abdurrashid and Abhay Valyavettil (Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar). Mentor: Dr. Ingmar Weber
Third place: Multi-User Backend for Meeting Translation Project, by Fahim Imaduddin Dalvi (Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar). Mentor: Dr. Francisco Herrera Guzman
